Fifth Avenue South vs Third Street South
Both are lovely. They are not the same, and locals are quietly partisan about it.
The short answer
Downtown Naples has two shopping-and-dining districts within a five-minute walk of each other, and they attract different people. Getting this right will meaningfully change your evening.

Fifth Avenue South
The main event. Six or seven blocks of broad, palm-lined avenue running east from near the beach, with a central median, wide sidewalks and dense outdoor dining. It is busier, louder, later and more social. There is live music spilling out of several places, a cinema, galleries, and a steady evening promenade in season.
- Best for: a lively night out, people-watching, groups, anyone who wants options
- Dining: Italian, steak, sushi, French, and several very good bars
- Parking: free public garages and street parking, but in February you will circle
- Peak: 6pm to 10pm, December through April
Third Street South
Quieter, older, prettier, and more expensive. Third Street South is built around courtyards and alleys rather than a boulevard, with bougainvillea, small independent shops, art galleries, and a set of long-established restaurants where the same customers have sat at the same tables for twenty years. It closes earlier and feels more residential — it sits right in the Old Naples grid, a few blocks from the pier.
- Best for: a proper dinner, couples, a slow morning coffee, shopping with intent
- Notable: a Saturday morning farmers market in season, in the parking area off 3rd Street
- Parking: street and small lots; easier than Fifth
- Peak: 11am to 2pm and 6pm to 9pm
The walk between them
Five to eight minutes through Old Naples, and it is one of the nicest short walks in Florida. Low white houses, banyan and royal poinciana, brick sidewalks, no traffic to speak of. Do it in the hour before sunset.
Also downtown
Bayfront and Tin City sit east of Fifth on the Naples Bay waterfront — Tin City is a converted 1920s clam-processing complex, now shops and casual seafood restaurants with the boat docks right there. It is more touristy than the two districts above and it is also where a lot of the water activity in town departs from, so it earns its place on an itinerary.
